Job Description

SRNL's Materials, NDE & Systems Evaluation group is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to research advanced non-destructive examination/testing (NDE/NDT) methods for unique materials and components.

Qualified individuals must hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree preferably in Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from a minority serving institution to be eligible for the Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP).

The Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are fixed term assignments within the company and benefits eligible.

Responsibilities

Experience desired in methods such as advanced ultrasonics for detection of stress-corrosion cracking via phased array (PAUT), total focusing method/full matrix capture (TFM/FMC), guided wave (GWUT), EMAT (electromagnetic acoustic transducer), eddy current (ET), immersion UT and automated UT methods.
Experience in other NDE methods such as microwave, ground penetrating radar (GPR), ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), ultrasonic pulse echo, radiography (RT) and thermography is also helpful.
Candidate will work with other SRNL researchers to create novel proposals to address DOE and other agency funding calls, and establish collaborations across the DOE Complex, and university and industrial partners to create successful proposals.
Candidate will author internal and external reports, effectively communicate and publish results.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering + 0-1 yrs. relevant work experience
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, for which US Citizenship is Legally Required

About the Team

SRNL's Environmental & Legacy Management (ELM) Directorate closely collaborates with the Department of Energy (DOE) and site contractors to develop, mature, and apply science and technology needed to resolve environmental challenges and advance legacy management missions. As the lead laboratory for Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and Legacy Management (DOE-LM), SRNL applies our talent and expertise to develop and deploy innovative approaches and technologies to reduce risk, cost, and schedule of environmental cleanup and nuclear material processing.
