JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to manage assigned engineering functions. Job duties consist of varied construction inspection and plan review duties. Successful performance contributes to a safe, well-maintained, and efficient city infrastructure. FLSA status is Exempt.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.
INSPECTION DUTIES (40%)Inspects new subdivisions for storm and sanitary sewer installation, water installation, proof roll, curbs, gutter installation, storm inlet installation, and asphalt placement.
Inspects storm sewer connections on commercial buildings.
Internally inspects 30" or larger storm pipes.
Performs proof rolls to ensure proper compaction of streets prior to curb, gutter, and asphalt placement.
Conducts two-year subdivision reviews; prepares punch lists for developers.
Monitors final testing of sanitary sewer installations.
UTILITY COORDINATION DUTIES (10%)Inspects all utility construction projects within the City of Prattville for compliance to any and all plans.
Works closely with other city departments to ensure compliance.
MAINTENANCE DUTIES (20%)Responds to work orders; troubleshoots problems and determines the nature of the problem; coordinates resolutions.
Performs ride alongs to identify needed repairs and maintenance.
PLAN REVIEW DUTIES (10%)Performs plan reviews.
Checks incoming plans and blueprints to ensure compliance with city specifications.
SURVEY AND OTHER RELATED DUTIES (20%)Performs surveying to verify elevations and distances, find property corners, layout building pads, and check grades.
Performs property deed research.
Responds to concerns from the general public, contractors, city officials, or related professionals.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Performs GIS collection.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or a construction related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
Three (3) years of experience in a related field preferably in a municipal government.
Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

Retirement-Through the Retirement Systems of Alabama, this benefit requires mandatory enrollment for all regular employees as of the first day of employment. Employees are classified as Tier I or Tier I (A) with the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The employee pays a percentage of all gross income specified by RSA. The City provides a matching amount determined by RSA.

Deferred Compensation (457 Plans)-Voluntary participation allows the employee to lower taxable income, and pay tax on the deferred income in the year of distribution. Sick Leave-
8 Hour EmployeesSick leave is earned at the rate of 80 hours per year with no accrual limit. Retiring employees have the option of receiving payment for the accrued sick leave (up to 360 hours) or converting the leave to service time. The City administers the time and pays for accrued sick leave. You are eligible upon completion of the first full pay period after your hire date.
12 Hour Employees (Wastewater)Sick leave is earned at the rate of 84 hours per year with no accrual limit. Retiring employees have the option of receiving payment for the accrued sick leave (up to 378 hours) or converting the leave to service time. The City administers the time and pays for accrued sick leave. You are eligible upon completion of the first full pay period after your hire date.
24 Hour Employees (Fire)Sick leave is earned at the rate of 120 hours per year with no accrual limit. Retiring employees have the option of receiving payment for the accrued sick leave (up to 504 hours) or converting the leave to service time. The City administers the time and pays for accrued sick leave. You are eligible upon completion of the first full pay period after your hire date.
Holidays-Twelve paid holidays per year. The City Council determines the holiday schedule for each fiscal year.
