Job Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director and Director, and the indirect supervision of the Associate Vice President / University Architect for Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, serves as project manager directly responsible for overseeing the design and execution of major capital construction and renovation projects.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field from an accredited college or university and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Ability to obtain professional licensure as an engineer or architect, or obtain professional certification as a construction manager or professional project manager in the State of South Carolina within 12 months of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field from an accredited college or university, and 4 years demonstrated project management experience, especially experience with the design, construction and management of major construction building projects; or bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field from an accredited college or university, and 6 years demonstrated project management experience, especially experience with the design, construction and management of major construction building projects.
Additional Comments
Knowledge of principles and practices of modern architecture, design engineering and facility construction. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the construction and modification of facilities. Knowledge of contract procedures, bidding procedures, architectural agreements and inspection procedures. Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing architectural or civil engineering project management for state highway construction, building construction or facility renovation projects. Ability to oversee the work of subordinate engineers or architects. Ability to establish positive working relationships with customers, superiors, subordinates, associates, design and construction consultants, state, local and federal professional personnel and other public and private sector organizations and individuals. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to prepare, review and revise plans and specifications. Ability to problem solve and utilize conscious decision making. Ability to build teams and involve stakeholders.
