GENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder direction, perform professional engineering work in the design, investigation, and construction of public works and utilities projects; apply engineering skills and knowledge to evaluate a variety of engineering problems and plans.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDThis position may exercise technical and functional supervision over engineering staff.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIESDevelop engineering project plans, specifications, and estimates; assign routine investigations, design, and drafting tasks to technical assistants; review completed work; assist in the solution of difficult problems.
Provide technical supervision, as required, to subordinate engineering staff.
Research publications and industry information sources; develop revised design and construction standards for public works and utilities structures and appurtenances.
Investigate problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations; order surveys, mapping, and data collections; prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
Coordinate plans with consulting engineers, developers, and contractors.
Participate in the investigation and evaluation of preliminary general plans for the expansion and modification of public works and utility systems; prepare estimates and reports related to adjustments of established master plans.

Experience and Training Guidelines:For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:Five (5) years of experience working as an engineer, under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer is required.
Five (5) years of experience working as a licensed professional engineer is preferred.
Education/Training:A Bachelor's degree in an engineering field from an accredited EAC/ABET college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
License or Certificate:A current professional engineer license is required.
Possession of, or ability to secure within six (6) months of employment, a professional engineer license in the State of Texas is required.
A valid Texas Driver's License; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Special Requirements:Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, chemicals, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
Ability to travel to different sites.
