Location:

Russellville, AR

This is a 26-week program that show the diverse engineering work that the Forest Service does from design and construction of roads, bridges, facilities, dams, and environmental issues. The learning experience provides exposure to various engineering problems that the Forest Service must address, development and training opportunities will be made available to prepare the candidate for a job within the government, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. This position requires a detailed oriented and self-motivated individual. The internship will try to allow the intern to work on a wide range of projects and the different phases of work the projects go through till completion. Work may consist of office work, field "backcountry", or remote location around the forest independently or on a team.

Duties:

Review drawing and exercise judgement in selecting best design layout.

interpret engineering project notes, data, and specifications to prepare design and layout of roads, trails, bridges, drainage structures, and other systems.
Facility inspections (include water and wastewater systems, campgrounds, dams, and work centers)
Site surveying and staking
Inspections of engineering and construction project materials, equipment, construction techniques, and process to ensure compliance with the contract requirements.
Information management

Qualifications:
Have or pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or related field. (required)

Valid driver's license (required)

Basic knowledge of AutoCAD (preferred, can be trained on the job)

Knowledge of engineering computations (required)

Experience with surveying (preferred, can be trained on the job)

Experience in construction (preferred, can be trained on the job

Benefits:

$750/week
$1,000/month Housing Stipend
$50/month Commuter Stipend
Up to $2,750 available for Forest Service work travel, orientation, trainings, professional development opportunities that align with RA role and goals.
Direct Hire Authority Eligibility - after completing minimum of 960 hours, DHA status provides special non-competitive hiring status when applying for Forest Service positions.
Option for health insurance coverage during full-term

*This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed.
